Coal fly ash (CFA) is a by-product of coal combustion in power generation and gasification processes. Worldwide the generation of coal fly ash exceeds 600 million tonnes, resulting in a huge land space demand and creating potential environmental pollution due to seepage of potential toxic elements (PTEs) into groundwater resources.
Despite being generally considered as a waste product, CFA can be utilised in a number of beneficial ways as a primary resource or additional raw material component in a number of process industries. This Zoom webinar talk from Professor Herman Potgieter will present several case studies to illustrate the valorisation of this industrial waste.
