Creative writing classes
Our broad and engaging creative writing evening class covers character and story development, utilizing the senses, writing from life experience and much more!
Twice a year we run a mixed ability course, suitable for those wanting to learn new skills and writers looking to polish existing talents.
Evening classes
The topics covered during the course will include character development, utilizing your senses, writing from life experience and much more. The focus is primarily on fiction, but the skills you will learn are applicable to poetry and writing for screen and stage.
Please note that this class is not open to under 16s.
When
The course runs on Wednesdays 7-9pm for 10 weeks during term time (autumn and spring terms) and over the summer holidays (subject to tutor availability). The next set of classes will run from on Wednesday 9 October to Wednesday 11 December 2024.

Parking
Visitors are now required to register their vehicle and pay to park on campus. There is a flat evening rate of £1 after 6pm.

How to book
Our mailing list subscribers are able to access a priority booking period for our evening classes, which will open on Tuesday 17 September at 12pm. Details will be emailed to mailing list subscribers on Friday 13 September (please check your junk mail folder if you do not receive an email). Following this, the tickets go on general sale and booking links to Eventbrite are added to this page.
Refunds and Cancellations
We will issue refunds for cancellations (minus Eventbrite fees) up to seven days prior to the first class, but no refunds will subsequently be issued unless a class is cancelled and cannot be re-arranged.
Accessibility
Access details will be added once the room is confirmed. We are committed to making our classes accessible to all.
If you have any specific access requirements or anything you would like us to be aware of when running the classes, please let us know via email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk prior to the first class and we will do our best to accommodate them.
Tutor 鈥� Alison Mott
Alison Mott is a writer and story collector with many years’ experience leading creative activities in the community.
She writes memoir, historical fiction and non-fiction, children's fiction and educational materials for adults and schools.
Her work has appeared across a range of publications, online platforms and local presses, including The Guardian and Primary History Magazine.
Alison was Writer in Residence at 小蓝视频's Old Rectory Museum in 2018 and her book, Songster – 小蓝视频’s Own War Horse was published by Carillon Tower and War Memorial Museum the same year.
She has a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and is accredited as a writing coach through the and the .
